Reflections on the Sustainable Foods Conference

Back in April, Students for the Environment (S4E) at the University of Delaware had an amazing opportunity to host a conference with the help of GreenAllies. The board members of S4E noticed that our members have a lot of interest in food sustainability, so we decided to make this the theme of our conference. We had panels of experts discuss sustainability in foods before, during, and after consumption. Each panel was followed by breakout sessions with each panelist, where conference attendees could learn more about how to implement sustainable food practices in their schools, communities, and personal lives.

 

S4E decided to host the sustainable foods conference in November 2017, however, most of the planning didn’t get started until February 2018 after the big GreenAllies conference at Swarthmore. Essentially, the entire conference was planned in about 2 months. It required a lot of work from a dedicated group of members who found panelists, food donations, prizes, and co-sponsors to pull of such a successful event! We have heard nothing but positive feedback; everyone was incredibly engaged in the discussions and took away a lot of useful information at the end of the day.

 

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the passion coming from the members of S4E and the amazing staff at GreenAllies. Thank you so for helping us organize a great day about sustainable foods!
